Can you believe it’s almost the end of July already?! It feels like it was just yesterday that we were storing our winter coats and hats away! In this summer heat, most of us are looking for ways to cool off, and that includes our feet. If you have a backyard pool or cottage and need a supportive, waterproof sandal, then keep reading. Or, if you keep slipping into those old, flat flip flops, I have some recommendations for an upgrade. I know that sandals with back straps and lots of straps over the foot will offer you more support, but I also know that when you're at a pool, splash pad with the kids, the beach, or cottage, it’s nice to have something to wear which is easy on, easy off and can handle being near water.
Be sure to check the fit first; your toes should not hang over the edges of the sandal, and it’s a good idea to have at least a fingernail's width of space between your longest toe and the end of the sandal. Your toes need room to flex and extend during walking and, with that extra space, you won’t end up with your toes rubbing against the lip of the sandal. On that note, it’s often a good idea to have a brand which “cups” your foot. I also like brands which have a built in “toe crest”; this helps give the toes something to grip onto during push-off when walking and gives metatarsal support.
Below are some samples to check online from these great footwear brands.
